I've read all four of his books. He's got a fluid writing style. His research has a bunch of holes in it from a DC standpoint but it was an entertaining read. After all, it is a fiction novel and rated as such for good reason. Even if you research the Priory of Sion (sp?) which I did, information is very sketchy, so much of the basis of the book is fictional in this respect. Good writing? Yes. Factual, hardly. Take it for what it is. To anyone who forms their beliefs based upon a fiction novel, you're in trouble, seek help.
Digital Fortress and Deception Point are technical novels and are worth the read.
As far as other authors who have good writing styles similar IMHO to Dan Brown, I'd recommend Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, Ken Follett, and others that aren't coming to mind...
