Ok, I also posted this in the California section. Basically, I knocked the mirror of of my 00 T-red CSVT. I am going to glue it first because I do not want to pay $165 plus paint for a new one.

Although I am a bit of a noob, I did research how to remove the mirror assembly.

Problem is that I really couldn't find out how to remove the inner plastic piece that covers the attachment screws for the mirror. I tried to manually pull it off, but only gouged the leather on the door panel. It was said that one would need Craftsman Torx wrenches. I also read that you can buy the manual thing from kragen...but I'm pretty cheap.

So, how do I get the inner plastic triangle off?

Thanks in advance!

First you need to remove the little and almost none apparent round push pin on the trim that covers the screws for the mirror.

You remove this push pin and the screw that is hiding behind (a torx one if i remenber well), and pry off the trim. Then you will have access to the screws for the mirror.

Nic.

You should easily see it when you look at the trim. Check carefully at the trim and you should see a small cercle, that is it. Same color as your trim. About maximum 1/2in of diameter.

P.S. There is also a 8mm bolt on the right side of the trim that you have to remove for the mirror.

Nic.

I ordered a replacement from carmirror.com for a '99 Contour. Mirror only cost $65.00 and that included the powered version. You will have to paint it as it comes in flat black. You can order the paint and spray it yourself.

The removal and replacement is really easy. Look carefully on the inside of the trim and you'll see a small circle for that plastic plug that covers the screw. You can pry it off with with something sharp. Once you get past that the rest is very easy
