it just doesn't look like a mod-friendly platform to me. the belt line is too low, the wheel openings too small and the overhangs too long.

I hate to be the wet blanket here, but Ford SVO (SVTâ??s parent division) is in disarray (that's probably why John Colletti quit) and they have already announced that the SVT Focus will not be replaced. In addition the SVT Lighting has been cancelled and just before Christmas the SVT Cobra was put on â??temporaryâ? hold. So if you want a hot rod 500 youâ??re going to have to buy a Volvo S60R (same platform) or build one yourself.

dude, you talk like this svt re tooling thing is new. there not gone, just rebuilding. anything is possible. And from what I read, and have herd it would more likely be a st version not svt.

Ford SVO... doesn't exist and hasn't existed for quite some time. The parent group for SVT, Ford Racing, & Advanced Product Creation is the "Ford Performance Group."
The SVT division is going through a restructuring process to allow it to grow within the market, its far from dead.
Coletti retired after achieving a life long goal, affording him to be able to step away while it career was at a high point.
SVT Lightning is not cancelled, it is postponed.
SVT Cobra is still on track for an '06 release, no pre-christmas temporary hold like you mention.

that 500 looks nice. possibly because from the front wheel back it looks like an A4.

Again, absolutely correct, but remember as recently as August 2004 Jaguar Racing was only being "restructured". We are talking about corporate America here, nothing is certain.

He retired a year earlier than originally planned. He said he was going to stay on and train his replacement, then one month later he abruptly retired.

I never said it wasn't on schedule, but acording to the person I talked to during SEMA it had been put on a "temporary engineering hold" when the independant rear suspension was cancelled from the project.

And as we know the a4 has a "svt-esque" go-fast model S4
