i'd certainly vote for AU if i could....though i suppose being an alum might color me biased.

since the AP is pulling out of the BCS system for '05, i'd love to see them continue in that mutinous spirit and rebel against the "system" by voting auburn #1 in their poll to ensure a split championship, but realistically i don't know that i see that happening. AU has had a phenomenal season, the best in school history, and it's a shame that we got shut out of the title game by two also-worthy other teams.
i can't argue that USC and OU don't deserve to be there, but i'll argue all day long that AU *also* deserves to be there - and those low preseason expectations did indeed impact the final rankings, leaving AU out in the cold.
i wish AU had piled on another touchdown or two last night, and i wish they had held onto the shutout, but at the same time, "style points" shouldn't have to matter. a win over a quality opponent should be viewed as such, not by whether it was a blowout win or not. AU never trailed last night, and i think the only reason the score got as close as it did was b/c they went into conservative mode a bit too early...(not to take anything away from VT, of course - they're definitely a good team and were well-prepared last night!)
so, i think the long and the short of it is that AU is amply deserving of a share of the title but will likely get left out in the cold by the AP after having already had the BCS door closed.
like everyone else in the nation, i think a playoff is the only way to determine a true national title winner, but w/ the BCS in control it's a waste of time and energy to argue for it.
