For all you computer/gaming geeks out there.
I got an xtasy ATI 9600xt with 256m for xmas. I've tried to install it into my emachines t1980 (athlon xp) 256mb ram 240g hard drive. When I did the computer turns on but seems to sit and spin, (not boot up) the monitor doesn't get any signal out of the video card nor the main port on the computer. I've disabled the integrated video card via the control panel and in bios (according to emachinees instructions) to no avail. Any other suggestions, bad card perhaps? or is it just not compatable(it should be it is an older card) 1 problem I know I do have the power supply is 250 and xtasy recomends a 300w power supply. With the big ass hard drives I have is the card simply not geting enough power? (this issue will be resolved soon I'm getting a bigger power supply inteh next few days.)
Thanks.

You should have a tv output. Try connecting it to see if you get a display there. I have had this problem with my 9200se. I am using the DVI output for our HDTV. After trying to configure the hardware settings. i.e. disable the sound card I often lose my display. However it will still be on the tv. Or if I unplug the DVI cable and restart the computer I can get my display back. Not sure if this will work for you but it can't hurt and I'd be interested to know if I'm not the only one having had this happen. Good luck.

reconnect your monitor to your old video input and try to find out if its really disabled. If so, then shut down PC and reconned to new video card. Should work now.

its your power supply... you are going to need way more then 250 watts... I would suggest a 350 watt.

Assuming your case will fit a standard ATX power suppy.... This one would be the perfect application... PSU

On some emachines the AGP slot is not wired to function in an attempt to save money. They won't tell you that but it's true.
Some have a jumper on the motherboard that must be set to switch from onboard to AGP video.

the computer was workig without the integrated video card set on, but it was horribly slow when loading graphics ie internet etc.
I was planning on a 350-400 watt supply (I have connections at Comp USA and should be able to get a decent deal. Hopefully anyway) BTW I'd love to do a double fan supply but I'd have to cut a hole in the top. Really don't feel like doing that.
I hope that the agp is actually wired if not, i'm screwed, I did check the bios and it does show the AGP slot so hopefully i'll be ok.

A 250 watt will work just fine. No need to go any higher. I never understood why people go so crazy with power supplies nowadays.

Now if you had the computer loaded up with tons of other hardware, then thats a different story. But come on, it's an emachines with a Micro ATX board and everything integrated, how much power do you think it really needs?

I agree. 250 is plenty for most basic systems. Im guessing it is a BIOS or jumper problem. Take a look at the bios settings to see if there is something to change.

Have you tried leaving the monitor hooked up to the on-board VGA connector while the new AGP card is installed?

If you get picture from the on-board still then that means the AGP is not configured to be the primary card. This setting can usually be changed in the BIOS.

Also, have you tried to install the video card in another computer at all?

Find out if its the computer or the card itself to narrow down the problem. I've had alot of trouble with Xtasy video cards in the past. I've had alot of bad video cards right from shipping.

And last thing I can think of is exactly what you said earlier. It can possibly be incompatible with your PC. This is pretty rare, but it does happen from time to time. Even if your computer meets all requirements for the card.

tried the monitor on the main video output (from the computer) and it didn't get any signal.

I'll most likely also take the card into Comp Usa (where I beleive it was bought) and see if they can make it work in another computer.

BTW I do have 2 120 gig hard drives, a wireless card, fire wire card, DVD Burner, and CD burner attached so power still could be an issue (I think)
