I'm beginning to believe that either I should buy lottery tickets every week or that the majority of these "common" failures are more maintenance and poor driving related. (2.5L oil starvation and stock diff aside)
I, for all intent and purpose, drove the living sh~t out of my engine and transmission. Neither one died because of it. We are not talking the normal wear and tear 99.99&% of the people do either. 8000+ rpm redlines, shifting at redline constantly.
I more then expected something to fail because of my testing.
Syncros held, engine held, water pump even held, et cetera.
The diff was close to going out but anyone that has seen my launch my car still can't believe it lasted more then a week.
I am a firm believer that aggressive maintenance is a must and while I do drive the piss out of my car I don't "abuse" it by poor driving style and habits.

Send it to Terry Haines in Grand Rapids area then and have him rebuild it. Then, most likely if it goes out, you know whhat the problem is.. Originally posted by 99svtcontour: and yeah i do know how to drive stick this isnt my first car that was stick never had any problems with my other stick cars

Start buying lotto tickets. I drove aggressively as you said but didn't beat on it and had synchro problems under 20k miles. I just learned how to drive around them since most of the time 2nd gear gets me up to legal speed anyhow. As for your odometer, if there is a way to take off the plastic cover, you should be able to roll it back by hand, otherwise, swap it with a cluster with fewer miles. It's only illegal if you get caught!

How do you 'drive aggressively' but not 'beat the crap out of it'? the first way is the 'polite' way of saying 'I beat the hell out of it.' And for your last statement, that is the exact problem with society. It's easy to drive aggressively without "beating the crap out of it" It's something called maintenance. An unmodded car is made to do certain things. You don't think automakers test cars by driving them like grandma's do you??? As for my last statement, well lets just say I have a new lease on life. I'm tired of doing the right thing just to get beat out by people doing the wrong things so for 2005 my motto is if you ain't cheatin you aint tryin. Just look at our president for chrissakes

I too should be buying lotto tickets. 5yrs & 60K miles on original engine, trans, clutch, water pump. My daily driver! Changed the brake pads, flushed the radiator and change the oil with DINO ever 3-4 months and nothing has ever broken!
What do you guys do to these cars to make them fail?
