Ok, I searched around and found most people that have problems with popping out of gear are having 1st/3rd/5th all do it, which makes it seem like the linkage.

Now I was driving home from, well, home but anyway I was in Rapid City, SD at Culvers and noticed a rattling sound (kinda like the valvetrain of an engine w/o oil) that goes away when I depress the clutch. I called up my bro who said it was probly the throwout bearing.

I keep driving and get into Wyoming and right at 86K miles (on the dot!) it starts popping out of 5th gear only. It scared the sh*t out of me since I had cruise on so the tach nearly maxed out, plus I was drinking a pop which got spilled all over.

So I check it out, I was doing a steady 80MPH @ 3500RPM when it started doing this. It never fails now and at 80 it pops out, but around 70 it just attempts to pop out every few miles. I try holding it in and it overcomes my force and grinds. Doesn't do it in any other gear.

My brother then decided that it's the 5th gear synchro (he's not sure about the MTX 75, but others he's seen the 5th gear is all by itself with it's own synchro, which would explain why it only does it in 5th). His Jeep (AX-15) just had a similar problem and he showed me what happened. His synchro rounded off the edges that are supposed to grab the gear, which caused it to slip and throw out of gear. He's in process of rebuilding his tranny, which is how he showed me the worn synchro.

Does anyone think that it also happend to mine? Good thing I bought a warranty with it, becuase my bro says it probly needs rebuilt.

I drove the rest of the way (500mi+) home in 4th gear doing 70MPH @ 4000RPM, and still got 25MPG (as opposed to 27MPG in 5th @ 3500RPM doing 80MPH)

For further reference... I would try to stay under 4K rpm's its a little harder on the engine after that point.
