Ok, I searched around and found most people that have problems with popping out of gear are having 1st/3rd/5th all do it, which makes it seem like the linkage.
Now I was driving home from, well, home but anyway I was in Rapid City, SD at Culvers and noticed a rattling sound (kinda like the valvetrain of an engine w/o oil) that goes away when I depress the clutch. I called up my bro who said it was probly the throwout bearing.
I keep driving and get into Wyoming and right at 86K miles (on the dot!) it starts popping out of 5th gear only. It scared the sh*t out of me since I had cruise on so the tach nearly maxed out, plus I was drinking a pop which got spilled all over.
So I check it out, I was doing a steady 80MPH @ 3500RPM when it started doing this. It never fails now and at 80 it pops out, but around 70 it just attempts to pop out every few miles. I try holding it in and it overcomes my force and grinds. Doesn't do it in any other gear.
My brother then decided that it's the 5th gear synchro (he's not sure about the MTX 75, but others he's seen the 5th gear is all by itself with it's own synchro, which would explain why it only does it in 5th). His Jeep (AX-15) just had a similar problem and he showed me what happened. His synchro rounded off the edges that are supposed to grab the gear, which caused it to slip and throw out of gear. He's in process of rebuilding his tranny, which is how he showed me the worn synchro.
Does anyone think that it also happend to mine? Good thing I bought a warranty with it, becuase my bro says it probly needs rebuilt.
I drove the rest of the way (500mi+) home in 4th gear doing 70MPH @ 4000RPM, and still got 25MPG (as opposed to 27MPG in 5th @ 3500RPM doing 80MPH)

Well, 5th and reverse are shared by the same syncro but I doubt you'll be doing 70 in reverse. Definitely sounds like the synchro to me though.

Cables need adjusting. (hopefully not replacing)
1, 3, & 5 are all on the same up/forward cable position.

For further reference... I would try to stay under 4K rpm's its a little harder on the engine after that point.

Geeze... I just thought of something I could have tried out...
Drive a ways in 3rd gear at around 3500rpm and see if it jumps out. I'll try this out when they get the snow cleared off the highways. If it doesn't pop out in 3rd, I may try driving a ways in Reverse on a backroad to check the syncrho out (I'm pretty good in reverse, I scare a lot of people that aren't used to it).
So right now could be this: the cable needs adjusted/replaced (throwing out) -and- bad throwout bearing (rattle) bad 5th synchro... could the rattle be originating from the rounded synchro that doesn't engage anymore?

Well, I called up the dealer to see about them checking it out and getting it fixed under warranty... they refer me to a guy that works out of his garage (I have nothing wrong with that) and he wanted to check it out himself and get my warranty info to start a claim. I'm driving to his house after work and 2 blocks away from his house the car just comes to a stop. Putting it in gear and trying to go just makes a grinding feel (no sound), and the speedometer goes up (like the tires are spinning)... but no movement at all. I call the guy and he comes over to check it out, he thinks a spline is stripped because the halfshafts kinda vibrate, but don't turn when I give it gas. He hooks a chain up and pulls me to his house and got my warranty info so he can file a claim and see about getting it fixed. Then I remember about the Quaife. I tell him that is in there, and he is now confuzed about what he's going to do. From what he says, they're going to (more than likely) put a new/reman tranny in, and he won't be able to open it up w/o voiding the warranty. If they go that route I'm going to have him open my tranny and take out the LSD, which means I'll have it in my closet waiting until the warranty on the tranny ends to be installed... or if I trade the SVT in, I may put it up for sale here at a deal since it was "free" to me. So now my task is to get me a rental car (I'm probly gonna end up with a Kia or Grand Am, maybe a Focus if I'm lucky). Warranty says it will pay $30/day up to $180 total (9 days) for a rental car. More than likely will take more than that, so I'm gonna be out some $ there. DAMNIT

Well, they finally got it torn apart, the Quaife LSD is fried. The "inspector" is supposed to show up 9a tuesday to check it out, then file a report to the warranty company.
I wonder if they have to return the car to the condition I bought it in, or stock... If stock, I lose the LSD.
Anyway, probly gonna have some arguing with the warranty company since an aftermarket part is the problem.

You mean "what" warranty!
If an aftermarket part caused the failure that part of the warranty is considered void. Good luck getting a warranty company to pay for it.
Also if the Quaife really is bad (how is it "bad" by the way?) then I would assume improper installation for starters. It probably was shimmed incorrectly or not at all.

Well, I bought a warranty at the dealer for $2K extra (just in case I broke something, like this). What I'm figuring is they should return it to the condition I purchased it in. If not, no problem, but I'm probly gonna have to [censored] at them if they play the aftermarket part. Also the dealer checked the box for "supercharger/turbocharger" on the warranty info... I pointed it out to the dealer, but the salesman was like "oh, well that shouldn't matter".
All I know is it's "smoked". He did refer to the "aftermarket differential" as being the problem.
There was a rattling sound with the clutch engaged (and the shafts turning, obviously), and it still had the rattle after it stopped moving.
Maybe all this snow fu*ked it up, or maybe b/c the driver's tire has a little less tread than the other.

Yeah, I hear the Torsen is a lot easier. If they don't replace the LSD, then maybe one of them will be in the future (after the warranty, if any, expires on tranny).
