Yeah, I hear the Torsen is a lot easier. If they don't replace the LSD, then maybe one of them will be in the future (after the warranty, if any, expires on tranny).

The Quaife itself has a lifetime warranty. I wouldn't be worried about that right now.

I just don't see you getting any of this covered under "warranty" because they are blaiming it on a NON-STOCK part. The warranty will specifically state only OEM parts are covered and any modification or replacement of said parts that induced the failure void the respective warranty.

I'd easily bet money your are screwed!

After that point I would sue whoever installed the Quaife if it is proven it was the part that "truly" failed. That would be the first Quaife failure I've heard of so hence the "improper installation" statement.

Well, you may be correct. I just called up the company to check the status, and it's still in the claims adjustor's hands waiting for a decision. The inspector noted that the differential was stripped.

Then, I asked them about returning it to the condition I purchased it in, and they said it will be returned to stock, but if it's an aftermarket part, and the inspector noticed it, then it's not going to be covered. An obsure part of the contract where it says what's not covered (in the middle of a bunch of other stuff, lights, tires, etc.) it says "any part not installed by the manufacturer at time of assembly". So if you are right, I may talk to the dealer to see if they will do anything about it (since they sold me the car and the warranty, knowing/not knowing a lot of parts are not covered). Otherwise if they just give me the slip, I'll just let the guy that talks to the newly arrived airmen to add that dealer to their list of "do not buy from these guys" they tell all them.

Also, I don't think I want to sue fst4dr... but maybe he didn't install it himself. I'll PM him and find out.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow I'll know the fate of my car. If I can't do anything at all with it, then I dunno what I'll do since it's all torn apart, and that place sure wants $ for doing that, which I don't have. It may end up going to a storage facility in pieces

In any case, I'll try to get the Quaife back and ask the guy if there were any shims in there.

There is NO WAY the half shafts stripped the differential splines! The axles would break first. (much proof of that )

I would inspect it myself and see.

Well, you were right, the warranty company will not even touch the thing (they also had a back up plan in case it was original on SVTs... they told me the aftermarket wheels/tires could have caused the problem... I called bs on the guy and all he could say was "let me talk to my supervisor...blah blah").

Anyway, called the dealer, they did some talkin back and forth with the garage, the warranty co, and the dealer's manager. They are going to give me the $2000 I paid for the warranty back since it was void the minute I bought it.

So now I'm in search of a tranny. Not in too much a hurry, though cause the $ is supposdedly going to take at the most 3 weeks to arrive. Plenty of time to find a good deal, though.

So I'll call around the junkyards and see what I come up with since there's no difference in the SVT/non SVT tranny.

About the Quaife, I read up their warranty and as long as fst4dr sent the warranty papers in, I'm good to go. The garage says it's internally damaged (but can't determine what is wrong w/o opening it up), so I'm going to get that back and have maybe the first known trashed Quaife (he says it seemed to be installed properly...).

Anyway, on to searching!

After me speaking directly with the person who took it all apart, he says whatever is wrong with the differential, it's internal. It also appeared to be installed correctly, so maybe I have one of the only bad Quaifes around?

I'm going to go in a few days and try to look at it (and get my damn mailbox key ), gonna take the digicam and see what I can come up with, and post them here also.

Well, getting things going with Terry Haines, he wants a $500 deposit with the tranny for parts and the such, with a $400 flat rate labor charge. Of course there will probly be a little more $ once it's done...

I'm getting some (maybe all?) of the synchros replaced and his "slick shift" forks. I would have gone for the "koated kogbox", but I don't want to run the $ too tight in case the Quaife can't be covered.

Speaking of it, he said he can also do up a claim on the Quaife w/o any of the original paperwork, but it will take longer. I have no prob waiting more to save like $600 or however much a Quaife costs.

Now I'm just waiting for my tax return (this week hopefully) so I can ship this mofo off.

According to the guy that's working on the SVT, it's safe in an enclosed storage area, so I'm not too worried...

Shipped off the tranny, cost $10 or so for the container, $88.40 for UPS ground shipping, $11 for the charge of the place shipping it for me.

$500 check in the mail and awaiting arrival so he can diagnose and hopefully get it goin good again...

Supposed to arrive Friday...
