There is no national deer season. It depends on the state. Right now deer (with any weapon) are still in season in Georgia. He has a farm, and like drgonzo said, he can legally be killing them and may have a very good reason to do so. BUT he should not be leaving the bodies around to spread disease, and I'm sure you could get some agency involved to take care of that if you felt the need.

By that last post JEDs, I would say you are seeing things very clearly, and are going to go about things the right way...
PackRat, when you own land you don't always own the rights to everything that walks on it. You can't just kill whatever you want, whenever you want. I think I pretty much agree with you in all your posts, but this one is fairly ignorant. There are hunting regulations and rules for a purpose; so we don't shoot sh|t into extinction, and to properly control populations. If hunters were allowed to kill deer all year long, I guarantee you they would too become endangered. Might not be right away, could take a few years, but it would surely happen. Man can not simply take take take from the environment and not expect consequences.

Jed sounds like you got the right idea man. In any situation, but especially with neighbors, IMO it's always best to give them a chance by going and talking to them first. That way, 1) You have more facts of what's going on and 2) You actually give them a chance to do the right thing if something wrong/illegal is going on. Living in apts and dorms in the military I found this type of attitude the best way to deal with situations, although most of them on a much smaller scale than what you're talking about the principle is the same. I always get irritated with people who call the cops for a stereo being too loud or something like that without asking that person to turn it down first.

which is it then? you did but then you didnt? i dont get it. i would contact the DNR as this [censored] doesnt sound like a man you can reason with. if you go to talk to him first and nothing gets resolved then you are out of moves. if you go to the DNR first your problem gets solved at least, then you can do your public relations after. there is no room for this in our society. sorry.

How is he "out of moves" if he talks to the guy first? Seems to me if you go straight to the ultimate authorities that only then do you not have any more "moves."
This person that we have no room for in society could be supporting his family on the crops he grows. You don't know the situation but you choose to run your ignorant mouth about this? Everyone else on here prety much looked at both sides of the situation and came to the conclusion that talking to the guy would be the first best step, why have you come to a different conclusion?

Hate to say it Packrat, but the Supreme Court has long ruled that wildlife resources and the harvesting of them are rights of the publicto be administered by State governments.
I don't remember the exact names, but the first case was one over streambed fisheries in Connecticut in the 1850's, IIRC where a pre-revolution royal charter was deemed invalid. All following cases have upheld this precedent.
That said... I do think you should find out what is going on in your neighborhood, and see why your neighbor is doing it and if it is legal. If it is legal and reasonable, suggest that he could use the meat, give it to friends/neighbors, or even donate it to local food shelves (most states have a means to donate).
It truly is immoral to kill the animals without using the meat.

I was seriously considering a salt lick or maybe a feeder but had as yet taken no action (including basic research). The world has changed since I was a kid on my Dad's farm. Who could have imagined such a thing as CWD (twisted proteins in deer spit )?
Going to the authorities first will eliminate any chance I have of resolving this privately with the land-owner and will certainly guarantee me an enemy.
