In regards to the 3rd gear syncros, my previous 95 MTX lasted to almost 190,000 before the 3rd gear syncros became a problem. And that was 100,000 miles of spirited driving! It can be an issue, but I wouldn't say they go easily.
The big thing with this car is preventative maintenance. If you have an agressive maintenance schedule, then spirited driving isn't a major issue.
Be aware that the rear differential doesn't appreciate really hard launches. Install a limited slip if you want to launch it hard.
