I showed my friend my black contour and how it wont idle right.. i just found out that it wont idle (start up it revs to 2k then drops down to about 100 then goes back up to 2k then it goes back down but this time down to about 50 then stalls out.. i go to start it again it revs up to 2k and stalls again.. the next time i start it it revs up to about 2500 and slowly goes up then drops down and ildes ruf for about 5 more min doing the same thing, then it will idle fine at 1000) until it starts to warm up.. then it idles fine.. minus the fouled plugs.. my friend told my it's my fuel pressure regulator... could he be right?

I doubt it.
Check the IAC (Idle Air Control valve). It is responsible for idle speed management.

my wifes 98 tour is doing the same thing. I pulled the code P0301 misfire, P0171 & P0174 usally means you have a bad MAF or low fuel pump presure. I put in new plugs and changed the fuel filter still no change, next tried the MAF off my tour and still the problem remains, Want to check pump pressure to rule it out looked high and low for my fuel pressure tester but it nowhere to be found when I need it. So,I going to the junkyard in the morning to get IACV for it to see if it will quit (I mean idle smoothly).

if the idle is fluctuating or "wandering", it usually means there's an intake leak somewhere that's not being metered. if the IAC has been removed and re-installed, it could be a gasket leak. the bolts that hold the IAC in place are weak. if one is broken, the IAC is not held in place firmly enough, and you have a leak.

It is directly behind the EGR. I've become very familiar with that general area recently. Follow the 3/4" or so rubber tube that goes from the intake towards the firewall. That's your IAC. Sean
