98 se sport atx automatic. Owned since 28k, now has 100k.

For 40k miles or so, since replaced oe water pump, coolant light will not go out. Is overfull by 1/2", coolant mixture is 50/50 by hydrometer.

Shorting sensor wires does NOT disable light. Thinking I have a wiring problem, but not sure why it was caused by changing the water pump.

Trying to get this car "back to new" so I feel comfy driving another 100k.

Any suggestions? I hate to tear the entire wiring harness out of the car...

Disconnect the two wire plug.

Verify continuity of black wire to ground.

Short the WHITE/GREEN wire to ground and see if the light goes off.

If it does not go off, you have either an open circuit between the sensor and the instrument interface module or the interface module is defective.

Maybe you just need to replace the coolant level sensor...

If you will notice, he DID add more coolant, by topping to 1/2 inch over MAX, as he stated in his opening post. This is the normal, and suggested first action taken to remedy this situation.. A definite thanks for trying to help out, though, man...

Thanks guys, for the suggestions. I have not tried testing the harness as suggested, but will this weekend. I also learned via the email list that the sensor has a delay/sensitivity feature to prevent soshing from impacting it, so I need to look into that as well.

Thanks again,
Scott
