I don't think it is worth the time and trouble to report stolen property to the police. Where I live they loose the report and that is why crime statistics are so low. Even if you find your camera it would be almost impossible to prove who stole it. The thief can say "I bought it from someone but I'm not telling who". Thieves know the legal system and they have the right to not tell.
The legal system always has more important things to do. I felt guilty for reporting that my motorcycle was stolen. The thieves threatened me and the police lost the report. It wasn�t worth hurting or killing the theives and getting in trouble over. I was tempted and it took all I could do to restain from taking the law into my own hands. The criminal has a big advantage.
I hope you get your camera back. Was it an expensive camera?
