I installed the Diablo sport chip and have an interesting idle issue.

The car will maintain and even idle for about 30 seconds and then dip down almost to the point of stalling for a few seconds, and then raise back up to even and again after 30 seconds.....

I have had the car quit a few times as I coast to a stop at a stop light....

There is also a slight hesitation when I'm at a dead stop and push the gas pedal, but it smooths out quickly once I'm underway.

I can definatley feel a difference in performance w/ the chip.

Has anybody else had an issue like this with their chip, or could it be associated with something else???

I would get the chip tuned to my car if anybody knew of a place around here that does that.

Thanks

Wijn

This kid I knew had a brother that put a chip in his csvt, and it just ended up being a problem more than anything. He ended up taking it to a Ford dealership, and they ended up keeping it for a month and a half trying to find out what was wrong, and why the chip was causing the problems. He took it out, and the car went back to normal. If you really want to do a chip, do all of your other mods, and the chip should be the last thing on your mod list.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

I had a very similar problem on my first SVT.

Try this:

The white "F" shaped plastic mounting bracket that you bolt into the frame serves as a ground of some sort......on the inside of the "F" there is a metal piece that touches your ECU when you complete the install. For a quick test, unscrew the bolt from the frame just enough so you can turn the bracket so the open end is facing you.......the put like a piece of leather or thick cloth over the ECU (or on the inside of the bracket)and wrap it lightly with electrical tape (or on the inside of the bracket) so as to prevent the metal from touching the ECU......

I came up with this because I had absolutely no problems with the chip and then one day I had to take it in for warranty work and pulled it out. Upon re-installing it I put the Diablo Sticker back over the chip and the ECU, I scraped part of the sticker off thus exposing the metal on the box of the ECU and I had problems every since.....until I eliminated the metal to metal touch of the bracket and the ECU......

I posted on this back in 02 or 03 and I don't think anybody every answered.

Chime in here any time guys!!

Did this start just recently with the cold weather?

Does it go away 100% if you remove the chip?

...or in other words are you sure it's not a faulty IAC valve.

Are you running premium fuel???
Colder weather plus the fact that 99.99999% of chips (even custom ones) don't change any timing settings but WOT can cause drivability problems because all the other time you are running more octane then required. Couple this with the fact it is colder out thus both your shorter burn cycle and worse fuel atomization can be causing idle & drivability problems.

However I doubt that's the case since the idle just randomly surges. I'd bet it's the IAC valve... I just felt like throwing that tidbit out there.

Also a loose chip or improperly cleaned connector could be at fault.
