Regarding the original post:
The ball joint problem has been known about for months. The 'news' was DaimlerChrysler deciding to issue a recall after facing pressure. I'm not sure this problem would keep me from buying a Durango or Dakota because DCX admints a problem and will replace the ball joints. If DCX denied a problem, then I would be pissed.
Regarding the MSNBC article:
What a piece of crap. There are some basic 'facts' that are just wrong. The one that stood out to me was:

DCX Kokomo is a transmission plant. The Dakota is built in Warren, MI (aka Dodge City) and the Durango is built in Newark, DE. If you spend five minutes browsing the DCX corporate website you can figure that out. I hate crappy reporting.
