This is why Fords cars never have any resale value, Contours, Focus have so many recalls it is crazy, looks like the Escape is going to be following the same suit.

Another brilliant statement from you I see. Read below.

Number of recalls, TSBs, or any other mishap on my Infiniti G20t: 0.

Number of the same completed on my old Contour: 14

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Infiniti G35: 51

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Honda Accord (V6): 40

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Nissan Altima (V6): 40

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Mazda6s: 22
(Note this car is produced at a Ford facility in Michigan)

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Ford Taurus: 20

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Ford Focus: 10

I picked those purely at random. Surprising results?

Now, for comparisons sake here's a couple more:

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier: 75

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Dodge Neon: 21

Number of Recalls, TSBs, etc on the 2003 Dodge Stratus (V6): 26

So far, picking these out at random, only the Cavalier has the G35, the Altima, or the Accord "beat".

Not supporting Hitman's ridiculus statement, but those numbers are for Recalls, TSBs, etc. TSBs and etc are not recalls. A TSB (tech service bulletin) could be for something as simple as how to remove the air filter. Generally they are only instructional or informational. This is the same with the etc portion. Information only. Filter that search by recalls only and I'd like to see those numbers again. I'm not trying to say one car is better than another. Hell, the Monte Carlos I so adore were the highest recalled american car in history until the Pontiac Fiero came out.

And the Escape had 7 recalls covering the first model year(2001). All the following modle years have only had 1 recall(covering all model years) that has to do with reprogramming the ECU.

The answer to your question was posted above, but I'd like to make it clear that I did not include MRIs in my above counts (which was for a different topic). MRIs are the things you refer to which are instructional only, TSBs are actual problems that have been identified as occuring on a significant number of vehicles but are not serious enough to warrant a safety or other federal recall.

I would like to see the number of RECALLS on the Accord and other japanese cars vs American cars. TSBs mean nothing. Ive looked on my cars before... there was a TSB on my wifes beetle for the flower vase on the dashboard. It could warp over time if it was in direct sunlight...

Then read about 4 posts up -- someone already posted it.

And TSBs do mean something -- they're just not safety or emissions related. Chances are you're going to be affected by MANY more TSB-related issues than Recall-related issues and you still have to take your car to the dealer for either one. TSBs are TSBs because they've been found to be recurring complaints on a significant number of vehicles. Yeah they can be something stupid like a warped flower vase, but they can just as easily be an issue with warped rotors.

I didn't see what the GTO appearance package has to do with TSB's and recalls.

Keep in mind... the "moose" was a TSB.

Regarding the original post:

The ball joint problem has been known about for months. The 'news' was DaimlerChrysler deciding to issue a recall after facing pressure. I'm not sure this problem would keep me from buying a Durango or Dakota because DCX admints a problem and will replace the ball joints. If DCX denied a problem, then I would be pissed.

Regarding the MSNBC article:

What a piece of crap. There are some basic 'facts' that are just wrong. The one that stood out to me was:
Quote:

Both the Dakota and the Durango are assembled at a plant in Kokomo, Ind. The parts are made in another plant.

DCX Kokomo is a transmission plant. The Dakota is built in Warren, MI (aka Dodge City) and the Durango is built in Newark, DE. If you spend five minutes browsing the DCX corporate website you can figure that out. I hate crappy reporting.
