The only thing in the audio chain that should make sound is the speakers. Buy audio equipment like amplifiers/cd players/etc for build quality, warranty, and features. Contrary to what people like MattH may think, I am not running around with crap equipment. I have some fairly nice equipment at home and I fully believe in buying high quality as long as I am getting something for my money. My brand list includes McIntosh, a/d/s/, Thorens, Wharfedale, Energy, Lambda Acoustics, Adire Audio, NHT, Fisher, Mitsubishi, RGR, Harman Kardon, Monster Cable (50% off made them competitive), Hi-Vi, MB Quart, Audio Art, JBL among others. I think it's time I sell some stuff. Unfortunately, there is no value in Monster Cable products unless there are clearance prices on them.

Now with speakers, definitely buy what sounds good to you.
