On a positive Ford note(since these come few and far between). I was pleasantly surprised to receive a refund for the deductible I paid when they replaced my VSS. The receipt says it was covered under the emissions warranty. Why would the Vehicle Speed Sensor be covered under the emissions warranty? Not that I'm complaining.

Everyone likes to slam Ford for recalls, but they forget about all of GM's, including the new Trail Blazers where they could not be driven! Nissan just announced recals for 2001 Sentras and Honda has a campaign going too. Also, some of the the lost market share is due to lower car sales to rental fleets, namely the dropping of Contour/Mystiques and fewer Taurus fleet sales. But, Explorer sales are down because of you know what. Go to www.businessweek.com (June 25 issue) and read the article more closely. It says that the 2001 Mondeo is a huge hit and a new Fiesta is coming. Hopefully, some of this will come our way!

In some ways this discussion could be from the 70's where passenger cars from overseas are once again, ahead of the curve, as far as quality control. The Domestic production seems to sit on their hands and let the foriegn manufactures take the lead.

It's all about Greed. In the 90's management all across the US got into this Global economy/get our bussiness ready to make a killing. Only people hurt are the working folks and the products/costing cutting mess they bought. However, now that many of those same people have been let go and now with McDonald wages, well I hope the big money people choke on all those unsold products!!!!! Quality Job One has always been marketing to get people to buy. Not any value behing it anymore. Thanks to Greedy Ceo's/ management teams. Who by the way, are not hurting one bit. They took their money and ran last fall, right about September it started.

Conclusion: American = Bad People! But funny thing, when a company like Honda employs the exact same lazy ass Americans to make a car, they make one that isn't lousy. Outfits like General Motors don't have anyone to blame for their choice to make lousy cars.

To whomever asked baout queastioning the premisis of the Businesweek article. GO to any supermarket and get this week's Businessweek. You can't miss it, the Ford article is the headliner and cover.
The "last place" designation" was due to JD Powers and other such direct consumer research, as well as recall rates, etc.
Ford has lost more market share this past year than any other company. There's a reason why.
Infuryum, Honda came out very high as always, in spite of the fact that most of the domestically sold Hondas are built right here in US of A. Thus it isn't the U.S. worker to blame for quality problems at car manufacturers. Says a lot about management philosophy and design/process/quality control methods.

I have always owned ford!
I own two Contours (6cyl SE and Zetec). Spending all my time fixing one thing after the other.
Before the Contours I had an Escort GT and that thing fell apart to!
We are not talking about high mileage here.
My dealer (Coastal ford , Burnaby BC Canada) has been exellent, but eventually all the Warranty repairs and recalls has become just one big hassel!
(Warranty has long since expired!)
Sorry Ford but that the Zetec is starting to leak oil it is time to dump her.
I will never buy Ford again, never. I don't believe they will ever build a good product. They might be able to design a good car (and I love my Contour), they just can't build them.
The only fans of Ford are Tow truck Drivers and Transmission shops!

Market share is relative term. Chrysler is really losing sales compared to Ford.
Before the "Tire Mania", nobody was pointing fingers and making all these judgements and shouting.
Catch-22: Bad tires made by Japanese company= bad US workers good import brand cars made in US=good Asian managers
If you never buy Ford again, no skin off my nose, good luck and enjoy.

My opinion: Ford is having "Growing Pains" A few years ago Ford was a smaller company than GM and maybe Chrysler, but if you considder in the past 5 years for aquired Volvo (car division), Jaguar, Aston Martin and Land Rover, plus they introduced new car line basicly built from scrap the multi billion dollar Contour/Mondeo program, the Focus, and redesigned their entire fleet. The company grew too fast for it's self, They just got a lot of new technology on their hands and once they catch up with themselvs I think we may all be suprised at the result. I HOPE But who knows, ford may also turn into the "poster child" of big business gone bad
