well there is still room for more throttle before you get spin. i can feather the clutch and launch from ~3000 with minimal tire spin.

Hey folks. I'm completely new to this forum and I have a '95 w/V6 and automatic. And I have a suggestion for this guy's issue. The best way that I've found to launch a 5-spd is to rev to about 4k or so and drop the clutch. So what if the tires fry a little? They'll hookup soon enough. The only problem with the V6 is it's low low-RPM torque. It's a high RPM engine, limited to an impressive 6900RPM. And the only way to perform a decent launch is with the tach above 3500 or so. The Duratec 3.0, however, is much more torquey. By the way, I've fried the tires with my automatic also, just gotta know how to do it.

Well actually i've raced my friend and he has an 98 SVT and i have a 98.5 SVT and he doesn't spin his tires, but I spin quite a bit. I tend to get a little jump on the start, but all in all, it's pretty equal... So in my oppinion, it's all whether or not you want to show your racing with a little squeel or not.

Wow.. I know for a fact that SOMEONE will take your advice on a 4k launch and "who cares if you roast the tires, they'll hook up sooner or later"... What about "who cares if you grenade your tranny, or blow the differential?" that's the sad part, too.. that someone will actually listen to what you just advised.. Ray

dropping the clutch at 4K is def. not the way to pull a good 60 foot time. Seriously, all the guys that pull 2.0 60' times are revving at like 2,000-2500 rpms and slipping the clutch.

The engine would bog. Slip the clutch and floor it.
