I know there is probably topics and more topics about this, and if someone just wants to give me a link, that's cool too.
But, I was wondering what kind of chip experience you guys had. What are the choices for the SVT? and how hard is the chip to install(and the computer to get to?)
I can do some stuff myself, but a friend of mine helps me do most of the difficult work on my SVT.
Also, are the headers worth the aggravation(hp gains?) from those who have done it.

You can get a Superchip or a Diablo chip. The computer is in the passanger foot well, up underthe carpet on the firewall, easy to get to. -Nick

I'm happy with my superchip. nice gains, SUPER easy install - the computer is on the passenger side under the dash. You dont even have to remove the computer to clean the contacts or anything. Just remove the plastic holding clip and behind it will be a black plastic cover. The computer looks like a metal square box. My computer code was on a sticker on the black cover so I didn't even have to do much to get that either. Just pop the black cover off, clean the contacts, and pop on the chip and go.

Works wonders with the ATX. With the SVT you get better spark curve for N/A and IMRC control.

Thanks for all of your help guys, I think I'll go for it, but my only other question is can you just pop it off, say if I have to go in for any major warranty work?

For God Sakes, if you do buy a chip, make sure you ground it to something BEFORE you plug it into the computer!!!

My first experience with a "chip" was on a 1986 Grand National (I must be getting old...that car was new smile ). A friend had a Garrett T56 hybrid and had a new chip burned for +boost, shift points, etc. and never grounded the chip. What happened was the static electricity went from the chip to his ECU and wiped out the "stock" codes.

Maybe I'm wrong with this assumption, but I've seen it happen with too many other chips....just my .02$

Take it from somebody who works (worked?) in electronics manufacturing - static electriciy is the evil unseen destroyer of many things computer.

Do you guys think that maybe some of the problems people have been having with drivability could be the aforementioned static?? Don't they tell you to ground yourself to something metal before you handle the chip???

WEll, what would be the best way to go about doing it, i really dont' want to screw anything up, and I can do some stuff myself, but is there some trick to installing these things ie:idiot-proof?
