My first experience with a "chip" was on a 1986 Grand National (I must be getting old...that car was new
). A friend had a Garrett T56 hybrid and had a new chip burned for +boost, shift points, etc. and never grounded the chip. What happened was the static electricity went from the chip to his ECU and wiped out the "stock" codes.
Maybe I'm wrong with this assumption, but I've seen it happen with too many other chips....just my .02$Take it from somebody who works (worked?) in electronics manufacturing - static electriciy is the evil unseen destroyer of many things computer.
