No, I got the upper main 13mm bolt out first (which wasn't very clear in my first post - sorry). Since I have the valve covers off I was able to reach down between the rear bank and the firewall and remove that raskel. 
But the alternator seems to be held fast to the alt-bracket. Maybe I'm gonna have to completely remove the lower main bolt. It is backed out about 4-5 turns now, hoping that it would keep the alternator from falling all the way out. I want to just tip the alternator, pivoting it on the lower bolt - then I should be able to get at the upper bolt that holds the alt-bracket to the block. But she no pivot - maybe its rusted into the alt-bracket?
