The world's fastest supercomputer, The Earth Simulator in Yokohama Japan, can compute 35.86 teraflops. (tera= 10,000,000,000,000) (flops= floating point operations per second)

In 2005 testing will begin on the Sandia Supercomputer. With all of the new technology it should be capable of around 100 teraflops.

The human brain is capable of 10,000 teraflops. Further proof that computers are not taking over the world.

Ah, but the human brain is an analog computer as opposed to a digital computer. Fractal technology may someday lead to a technique that will allow digital computers replicate the analog capabilities of the human brain. Have you ever driven a car with a digital tachometer? You can get a much more usable feedback from an analog tach because you can sense the position of the needle much quicker than you can read a digital display.

Hence the question: What does this have to do with the original thread?

The reason computers are such a threat, is that even though they are slower than the human brain, they don't get sidetracked so easily, and can complete the task that they are... Hey, did anyone see the Simpsons last night?

So, what's this thread about anyway? ....

There is no way that any computer could ever replicate any analog signal. Analog = infinite # of possibilities. That would take one hell of a CPU! Plus the human brain can grow new neural connections as it learns. But you are correct... this has absolutely nothing to do with the original post. But it sure is entertaining!

Never say never. Evolution has had one heck of a head start on the computer!

I think the original thread had something to do with performance...
