Ok, first off you can't use MTX final drives in an ATX trans. As to the final drive ratios/Quaife gearsets & Quaife final drive ratios thes are the options & costs of PARTS ONLY.Yes the externals of the trans re hook up etc remain the same. These prices DO NOT include a Quaife ATB diff.
*MTX75 'Syncro' kit(includes final drive ratio of your choice).1st 2.993-2nd 2.053-3rd 1.522- 4th 1.185- 5th 0.967 withe either 3.823/4.062/4.250/4.600/4.857 final drive. Cost for parts $2450.
*Quaife 'dog clutch'gear sets 1st 2.462 OR 2.642 2nd 1.824 - 3rd 1.400- 4th 1.182-5th 1.040, withj final drive included at ther same ratios as the sycro set up, Cost of parts $4450.
Thes sets can be fitted on ANY MTX75 trans,Contour/Cougar/Focus/Escort...... wink

I just want everyone to know that I am a professional and you should not try to do 170MPH plus on I-696.......but dayyym is it fun when you can make it from woodward to groesbeck on 696 in less than 15 minutes.....

Are the lower priced gearsets capable of taking a lot of torque?
Terry,
What cost were you talking about if we just shipped you a stock trans in exchange for a trans that is built to withstand 300+ wHP?
I want to have a number in mind so that I can plan ahead for a purchase.
I also just want to be able to bolt it up to the engine without doing too much modification, and it has to fit all the stock hookups.

The Syncro gearsets are semi-helical cut, will take a higher torque, are machined from upgraded materials Vs stoc, also have new input and output shafts. The 'dog clutch' gears are straight cut which ,as we all know, straight cut gears can handle the greatest torque but are not a quiet as helical cuts....PM me if you want a special box built....TH wink

Thank you for the info. I would pm you right this second except that I know I don't have enough money right now and I don't want to waste your time. When I do have the money, I will then be contacting you.
As it is, I just wanted a ballpark or 'rough' cost figure so that I can shoot for it.

I want the upgraded gearset that can withstand at least 300 wHP and maybe up to 400. I also want it to have a quaife ATB.
From looking at the costs for parts and estimating labor and profit, I am guessing about $4500.
That is going to take me some time to save up, I do have a wife and kids who seem to want money for things like food and clothing. wink
If I can only convince them to eat rice and wear...
laugh

BTW if you still want me to PM you without having enough cash, then let me know. Or you can PM with a rough price.
Thanks in advance,
warmonger

Terry,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a trans built with straight cut gears be so noisy that they would not usually be considered practical for street use?

I remember the old Muncie "Rockcrusher" used for racing prepped Corvettes (L-88 and the like). They were very noisy (hense the nickname "Rockcrusher") and they just had straigher teeth than the run of the mill Muncie, not full straight cut gears.

Also would not the "dog" syncros nearly be unstreetable as well? Are not these gear sets really intended for racing?

Big Jim,
yep,I did say that the straight cuts are noisy, but far stronger. As to street use with dog clutches Vs syncos, yes you have to be able to 'drive' a full crash box as in race...for street you would be fine as long as you can shift correctly..!!!In the '60 we had a 'Knight' straight cut trans in a racing Mini-Cooper 'S', made you deaf...but who cares with a helmet on!...it was bullet proof!
