Hey everyone, there was a post about this, but i couldnt seem to find it anywhere. So ill have to ask again, sorry.
I have a 1996 Contour (2.0L w/auto transmission). My instrument cluster is the basic one (with no tachometer). If i went to my scrap yard and picked up a 95-97 cluster with tachometer (from another 2.0L) would i be able to switch? Would it physically fit? And the second question is, can i remove my odometer from my old cluster and simply pop it in the new cluster? I am assuming the tachometer wiring would already be in place am i right? Or would i have to wire it up?
Thanks Ken

The tach cluster from a 96-97 will work. The 95's have a cable driven speedometer. It bolts directly in and all the wiring conects. Start it and drive, everything will work, assuming you didnt grab a `95 cluster. As far as changing the speedometer head, I am unsure. Mine was failing, so I didnt swap heads.

Should bolt up fine. (Next time, might want to post in general or general mods. Doesn't matter though ). Some cars do not have the tach cable, so you would have to run a cable from the ECU to the guage. This has all been discused before, should turn up in searches. Let me know how this goes, I also want to do this, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

it will work, but read into your local laws about odometer swap, usualy all you have to do is get a sticker that says the origional mileage on the swap and the origional miles on the doner cluster. Its pretty easy to do also.

There were three types of speedometers in the 95s. There were two cable driven and one sensor. My 3/95 had a sensor, not cable driven.

I just got done installing an autometer tach on my 98 contour. It went fairly easy, and if it was me, I would do that instead of changing out the whole cluster. Easier, and then you won't have to deal w/ the milage stuff!
