That's one of the main reasons Sprint bought Nextel was for the PTT feature... If they got rid of PTT, they would also lose the businesses that are what most Nextel customers are... Plus Verizon has their own PTT plans/phones now, as does a local place called AirTel ("Just like Nextel" is their slogan, but it doesn't work with them).
It doesn't really affect me up here, though... No Sprint/Nextel/Cingular/T-Mobile up here, just Verizon (and local 3 Rivers Wireless and Cellular One, both using TDMA a.k.a. digital analog, era 1985). I used to have ghetto T-Mobile roaming (w/Cellular One, who actually started Voicestream/T-Mobile) up here, but it disappeared last night just like the real T-Mobile service did about 3 months ago (they sold the GSM towers to Cellular One, a.k.a. "USA 590")...
