AMEN!!!

I hate trying to get a hold of a nextel subscriber. It takes 30 seconds to get to that message then the phone finally starts to ring another 10 to 20 seconds later!!!

now i have att/cingular. service is awesome.

I've been very impressed with Cingular/ATT. I switched to them from Sprint close to 6 months ago, after being a 5-year customer of theirs. I would occasionally get dropped calls from Sprint, but that didn't send me packing away from them. I needed a provider that would allow me to roam on towers in Europe, Asia and South/Central America. ATT was the only one that really had a good plan. Coverage area is better than Sprint's and I've yet to have a dropped call, where I would get 2-3 a week with Sprint...

Sprint's world headquarters is located all of 5 miles from where I live (Overland Park, KS) and my neighborhood is THICK with Sprint employees, so this certainly is big news around here. I'm sure I'll get an ear-full about the merger in the weeks to come.

I had t mobile and im switching to nextel (work is paying for it) SO far so good, florida has good nextel coverage. Hopefully nextel can pickup on sprints towers. A couple of my friends have the sprint direct connect feature so a merge would be cool.

Ah, anyone remember when Verizon was formed? I do, since at the time I was with PrimeCo. Verizon is nothing more than a merger between Bell Atlantic, Airtouch, GTE and PrimeCo.

I'm hoping this will simply result in better service coverage, and more people I can 2-way via my Nat'l PTT plan.

I do. I've been with Verizon back when it was GTE Mobilnet and I sported one of these:

Ah the good old days of analog.

From what I read they are slowly going to switch everything to Sprint's network and phones, as the Nextel system
is already basically at capacity.

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of PTT, I really hate that [censored], people are so rude with it sometimes

That's one of the main reasons Sprint bought Nextel was for the PTT feature... If they got rid of PTT, they would also lose the businesses that are what most Nextel customers are... Plus Verizon has their own PTT plans/phones now, as does a local place called AirTel ("Just like Nextel" is their slogan, but it doesn't work with them).

It doesn't really affect me up here, though... No Sprint/Nextel/Cingular/T-Mobile up here, just Verizon (and local 3 Rivers Wireless and Cellular One, both using TDMA a.k.a. digital analog, era 1985). I used to have ghetto T-Mobile roaming (w/Cellular One, who actually started Voicestream/T-Mobile) up here, but it disappeared last night just like the real T-Mobile service did about 3 months ago (they sold the GSM towers to Cellular One, a.k.a. "USA 590")...
