If you're just cutting your teeth on Linux, Fedora is a very good choice, as are distributions like Mandrake and SuSE. If you become serious about getting into the blood 'n' guts of Linux, however, you may find Fedora doesn't fit the bill. Just something to consider down the road.

Also, if you're considering migrating away from Windows and towards Linux as your day-to-day OS, you should think about joining your local Linux users' group. They operate much like CEG with meets and online discussion, and can help you with problems (or at least point you in the right direction).
