Does that site actually pay anyone in the industry for rights to those songs they have on there, or are they a bunch of illegal rips that they are charging you for. Seems like if its a Russian MP3 site, its the latter of the two.

I have an Austrian IP so I am not to worried. But for BT stuff I use an Israeli proxy. Here they have "Fair Use" which means I can download and upload no more then the average user does in Vienna(ca. 10 GB a MONTH!!!). I can bypass this with a proxy because they see it as forwarding rather then doing any real work. I still buy CDs and Movies but they are still expensive. The industry says prices will fall but they don't. Still have some reservations about stealing music and movies but until I resolve the issue I will continue to download.

Completely false, your utilization of the property without paying for it is illegal. If you already own the music and are obtaining a copy in the digital domain that is not illegal. For example, being a hip hop DJ I have 3000+ records. It is a pita to burn them to all to cd so I usually use a site to download them because I already own the "license" to the music. One might argue that if you download it but don't listen to it that you have broken the law, but why would you do that. Look, artists deserve to get paid for their work

[censored] the artists, they should be glad people are enjoying their music instead of trying to cash in. If they want money, they can get real jobs.

Define "real jobs"! Do you mean like goto school and get an education type of job, If so isn't the why there are schools specific to music/arts?
Saying, "If they want money, they can get real jobs" is like you working for just pennies on the dollar....
The largest part of an Artists income is made when touring....(FYI ticket prices)

I could care less about a lot of the major artists but you have to understand how the industry works. A new band makes it big on their debut album with a major label and sells a million records. They will make about 1-2 million off of that and then you have to split it 5 ways amongst band members. When you start selling 750,000 because internet downloads, suddenly you arent so rich anymore. With peoples tastes constatnly changing, if you cant put out a successful album every year you go broke. What i do like about the internet piracy is that it is forcing artists to really perform again unlike the lip syncing 80's. Touring is where artists are now making most of their money

i have basically given up on illegal downloading. I use websites like HXCMP3.com, myspace.com, and purevolume.com to get all the music i need to tell if i like a band or not. I for one do not mind buying cds, but thats not where a band (espically a unknown band) makes its money, its concerts and merch. everytime i go to shows i always buy at least some type merch at every show.
