recently when i went to go start my car the other day it would not start. it is pretty cold outside. the car was making a weird noise like the starter but im not sure what it was. it just would not start but the flywheel kept turning. could it be the flywheel or just a bad started ?

Pretending to be someone your not is a waste of the person you are.

i'd think the starter, if you have a hammer or something, tap at the starter like you see in the movies... with a hammer because it's possible the fins inside starter is stuck... i hope i'm using correct terminology.

or your battery could be dying.. check your voltage, shoudl be aroun 12 volts or something if full. then when you have time later bring to auto parts store to have them check the cold crank amps for free.. jump start your car and see if you can get the car to start.

i'd think it's your battery before starter goes bad.. because usually you can tell the starter's starting to give.. usually you'll have trouble starting the car that gradually gets worse..

just don't crank too long if it doesn't start.. you'll flood the engine or damage the starter.

Turn the key to the "on" position, and wait about 5 seconds before actually starting the car. Thats what I do. But the clattering noise you might hear is normal with the Duratec V6 engines.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

lol gotta love that noise; and it's especially pronunced in the winter.

I'd check your battery, also might help to clean the terminals especially during this time of the year.

Hey guys. This sounds a lot like a problem I just had last night. I tried to start my 98 SE 2.5L and it started up and then died right away. I went to key it again and I hear this starting noise that sounds like the starter is the only thing turning, but the engine is turning over....it just doesn't sound like it's turning over right....it sounds like it's missing or something....I am lead to believe it's the cam position sensor or crank sensor but I haven't got a chance to check it yet.. Please let me know if you know what this could be.. thanks
