Mr. Furby has officially re-enlisted for another 4 years today. They had the ceremoney at 15:30, that's 3:30pm for you civies. The Major that officiated the ceremony actually won the Bronze Star a few days ago, and the base commander even came outside to congradulate him. It was nice. Hopefully I can have pics on my site later tonight.

no, unfortunately he's in a career field that is over-manned and doesn't offer one. He's going to cross train as soon as he can though into one that offers a nice bonus of some sort, so that when he re-enlists in 5 yrs, we'll get a nice chunk of change.

Yeah... My career field is WAY over manned. They're going into "Phase 2" of forcing people to cross train or get out. My shop is losing 5 of our best guys (all NCO's) due to this in the next 2 years. At that, I noticed that we only have 8 or 9 NCOs in our shop, so that will be a big hit. Means all we'll have is a ton of E2s-E4s (You can't be in my career field as an E1, tech school is too long, I sewed on E3 in tech school) and a couple of NCOs.
All well, when my time comes around Summer/Fall of 2006 maybe they'll have some technology related job open away from this place...
EDIT: my sister's husband in the Navy got $30K (allotments) for re-enlisting. He's a Nuclear Electrician, though, so I can see why...

He said the are going to force people to train into a different Air Force job because his career field has too many people. That means their senior people are going to be gone, leaving a bunch of noobs.

I've been through a few of these types of drawdowns in my career and everyone always seems to freak out thinking that the loss of experience will doom the Air Force, but it doesn't. People adapt and move on and the Air Force keeps right on rolling so don't sweat it. May suck if you're in an AFSC that has to retrain but it's better than being jobless.
