Off the line, I constantly lose on head to head "stop light romps", ie 0-50mph(is that moderator safe?)(most recently with a Mach 1, lots o' torque I tell ya)
HOw do you guys modulate launches? At what rpm do you launch at? I end up bogging a lot, which really crushes my ego, but catch up by 60 mph. . .any ideas??
I'm "practicing" so I don't look like an idiot when I go to the track for the first time. . .

IMO, its your power curve is why your loosing...your going to loose the launch on the street 90% of the time...

yeah, tough to beat 300lbs of torque at 2000 rpm. . .when I have the same at 4500. ugh. . .when I ride it, and drop at 3k, it's absolutely useless, I wheelhop the first 2 gears. I get traction around 3rd . . .

you have that much that far down low? For some reason, I thought you didn't start making your power til 4k+... Originally posted by ssmumich00: Originally posted by RTStabler51: IMO, its your power curve is why your loosing...your going to loose the launch on the street 90% of the time...

no, the Mach 1 I was playing with has 300lbs at 2k, I don't build power until after 3k really. . .at 2k, I'm probably floating around with 200lbs at the most.

The only way to launch a boosted tour, or pretty much every low displacement or 4wd car is to ride the clutch. Practice revving to 3k or 4k rpm, start with the clutch right at the friction point, and slowly feed in throttle as you BRISKLY (not too fast) release the clutch. It's really like a more dramatic version of your first time driving a stick. Releaseing the clutch too quickly hurts us in two ways, it shocks the drivetrain which could cause wheel hop or a sudden nearly complete loss of traction, and it bogs the engine.
Practice this an you will be amazed what it does for you. Off the launch I can stay a car behind cars the launch very well (eclipse gsx, evo, mustang gt), and this was pre-lsd.
P.S. If you launch below the rpms that your spools at, practice launching then going to half throttle right as you hit that point. It takes quite a bit of practice to do this, but the last thing you want to do is overwhelm your tires. The rool of thumb is tires grip to a certain point, but after you pass that point, they give up.

I'm going to have to troutslap you for that one For those who dont know, if grip would be shown on a graph, as forces increase the grip slowly increases, but once the tires spina decent amount, grip does not slowly decrease, it drops exponentially. This is the reason why traction control is so effective.
