I can have a custom turbo built for my Svt for around 4700$.. seems like a lot of money considering the vortech is 3150$..Does anyone think that a turbo may be better than a blower if the availability is there??????

Depends on your setup...but turbos can generate more HP than S/C's can because they are exhaust driven not engine driven. $4700 seems steep but if its custom then that would explain the extra cost. I think Chris Hightower (?) is making a turbo for our cars and I don't think it costs as much $$.

the turbo will be all custom with all the bells and whistles. He has done all kinds of custom installs on cars and trucks..I saw one he did on an early model sho it was really nice.Put out about 12 pounds of boost.was just curious before I got serious in the idea, cause like you said 4700 is a lot of money..thanks for your input

If you plan on putting a significant amount of boost(over ~10psi) you should seriously consider doing a good amount of work on your internals. The Duratec lower end has weak sinter-forged rods and problems with throwing bearings due to oil starvation. Not to mention, if you go with that much boost you really should lower the Compression Ratio.

If you are going to put the money up for a $4700 turbo setup you might as well invest a couple grand more and do it right!!

Oh and don't forget the drivetrain, definitely gonna want a Quaife LSD along with a set of Stage 2 shafts from the driveshaft shop...adds up quickly!!!!

Oil starvation is easy to get around, just run 6qts of oil instead of 5.5, there's plenty of room.

But yes, many S/C users have spun bearings or destroyed engines. Our engine is not really designed to run forced induction on stock internals, so be prepared for some heavy duty work.

My advice? Get the 3.0L engine, it's good normally aspirated horsepower. smile

The car takes 6 quarts to fill to the maximum level anyway. All the Duratec equipped cars that I've changed oil on used 6 quarts or more. Anyway, the best way to prevent oil starvation is the Accusump.

What kind of setup is it? Twin or single? What kind of turbos? Wastegate adjustable to what boost settings? BOV by who? Any sort of inter/after cooler application? What year SHO was it and can I get pics? (I'm dating the LSHOC president in Philly, she'd like to get some info)
Most of all, who is it and where?!

I think I'd rather see some pictures of the LSHOC president.

Coming to Spring Zing? I'll introduce you!
I think she knows about the turbo, though. Some guy named Jeremy lives in FL?
