They are trying to establish cause and effect.

Exactly. They are trying to place the blame on the drugs, when in fact that was not the cause.

Ok, then this exact problem can be applied to perscription drugs with the warning labels on them. So, you have a script for say Oxy, but it tells you not to drive while taking it, and you follow those directions to the letter. Well, 3 days after you stop taking it, you get into an accident, they take your blood and find oxy in your system, and instantly you are charged with DUI. Granted, this is a stretched example, but its the same thing with drugs.

Say I go to Canada for the weekend, smoke a few (legally), and then get into an accident the next day coming home. I am no longer high (unless its some damn good stuff, heh), yet I get charged under the drug-driving laws, when I was not impared any longer? And then to top if off, I become another statistic?

Let's get into WHY drugs are illegal. Does anyone know why marijuana is illegal? I won't post the answer, but instead I'll wait to hear everyone elses misconceptions of why. And remember, the "its bad because its illegal, and its illegal because its bad" defense won't work here.
