Hey all, I was looking through the BAT catalog this evening, and I am thinking of doing some tune-up things on my car... it's a 1997 Contour V6. BAT sells replacement Motorcraft 17 lb. fuel injectors, but according to the description they are only for 1998 and up Contours. Is there a difference between the injectors used in the 98+ engines and in the ones used in mine?

I would like to replace the injectors when I do this stuff, but that's a high-ticket item from a dealership or even from an auto parts store, especially when there's 6 of them. The BAT offer is so much better. Just wondering if there is a major difference and should I use these on my engine? Thanks. Any EDUCATED responses welcome please.

Why do you want to replace them? Injector failure on our cars is extremely rare. It may help to run some cleaner through them though.

If you really want to replace them, maybe someone more familiar with the difference can help. I thought that the 96 thru early 99 non SVT were all the same. I know that the 95 is different and that the late 99 and 00 are different although some say that the late 99 and 00 can be used in the 97 to early 99 cars.

Well, mainly I want to replace them because my car is almost at 100,000 miles and BAT suggested in their description of the item that on a high-mileage car it would benefit to change them when you do a tune-up (obviously not as frequently as spark plugs or wires, but at some point). BTW: I have run a few bottles of injector cleaner through them, and I think they're probably pretty damn clean...gasoline itself has cleaners in it that are there for that purpose, so injector cleaner straight wouldn't do much anyway.

And I'm having some fuel-related issues, so maybe that would be a good step to take to narrow down the problem. Plus it would require me to take off the UIM, which could probably use a good cleaning and the gaskets need changing as well. So I might as well knock all of that out at once.

Anyone else have any information as to a year difference/separation between fuel injectors? I would greatly appreciate it.

I think there are 3 different types of injectors and the associated fuel calibrations:

1. up to 98.5
2. 98.5 to 99
3. very late 99 models and 2000 (green colour)

I had some CEL/MAF problems relating to the wrong calibration being used for my Proflow MAF, and as it turned out, although my car is considered a 1999 model year, being an August 1999 manufacture date, it is actually has the 2000 model year calibration.

I very highly doubt that you need new injectors. Mine are still great with just over 200,000 miles on them. You can do what you want, but if I were you I'd find another way to spend my money.

Or better yet go to Valvoline and have them run their complete fuel system cleaning...

So does this mean that I can't use the ones in the BAT catalog that are specified for 98 and up? Is there another place where I can find cheap fuel injectors (not cheap like cheaply made, but as in less expensive)? I guess I don't need them, but for the sake of reference. Thanks for all the replies, everybody. Still don't know what you meant by bridge.
