okay,
First thanx for your input... second let's talk.

Just to get this out of the way. My favourite car is a saab 93 sport sedan (best looking dashboard), and my favourite wagon would be an audi a4 avant. So yes, I've considered saab and audi...

Why wagon? That's simple: I have a Giant Schnauzer who weights about 100 pounds. He needs to stay in the back.

My second choice is the Subaru Forester. However, I've heard some really scary stories about Subaru's electrical problems. Not to say that Volvos don't have electrical problems, but the dealers (at least some) really do help.

The thing is this. I don't like to lease cars. I do not know what I'm gonna need (carwise) 3 years from now.... twins, triplets... who knows?... anyway. Instead of leasing or buying a brand new car I think it would be wise to buy a second hand car until you actually figure out what we're gonna need. This is my first kid (or kids... we don't know yet...) so I have no ideea what's coming...

I plan to keep this car for a couple of years. I'm not that worried about maintenance since we're not gonna put a lot of kms on this car.

My big thing about volvos is safety... I do a lot of work for volvo canada and I know a lot about their cars... at least from their marketing point of view. If I were to buy/lease a new car, I would go with the new V50. The safety features in that little car blow away ANY other wagon...

I thought about the focus too, but I think volvos are safer and if I have to pay a bit more on service, well that's life...

Thanx again for your posts...
P.S. Asked the same thing on a volvo board... not one reply... you guys rock!
