I've been trying for a couple of hours to get the lower bolt out that hold the alternator to the alternator bracket ('95 2.5L w/ATX). I've tried all kinds of combinations of 3/8" and 1/2" extensions, u-joints, adapters, etc. to get on that 13mm bolt head. Do I have to remove the axle shaft?

What worked for you??????? Thanks in advance. . . .

I left the bracket on the alternator. After taking out the two main mounting bolts, I just loosened the one bolt that holds the bracket to the engine block and the alternator comes right out.

Now if you're talkin' about the main mounting bolts, that's different. The lower came off with a couple of 3/8" extensions & a U joint in between them. You must take down the Y pipe to really be able to get at it, but that's easy.

The upper main mounting bolt is the hard one to get to. For that I used about 42 inches worth of extensions through the driver wheel well - the last extension was a wobble extension. Worked good.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I left everything in place, and managed to get a various combination of extensions and a Universal joint on the bolt. It took a while, only getting a couple clicks of the ratchet per turn, but I managed it, so it is possible. You just have to have patience and try everything you can think of.

The way i did it, i removed the DRIVER wheel, and with a lot of extensions and a joint at the end. You can almost align the bolt from the driver side with your longest extension. That is the way i did it.

Nic.
