Yeah, same here if you "drop" coverage.

Its a little different in NH because you don't necessarily require insurance. However, you can drop to the bare minimums on your insurance.

Most people carry more than the minimums. You can drop to the mins on liability and such, and then eliminate collision if you want, as collision is not required.

i am not 'dropping' coverage, i guess its just suspending it, i dont have to turn in my plates, which is a good thing.

but ti cant technically drop to the minimums really, because i dont own the car.

we'll see when i get the paperwork.

If you goto college sometimes that will change your insurance rate, because your car is parked (essentially "stored") in a given town for a significant period of time each day. You can try to swing that route.

I used to goto umass amherst and when I did my insurance was a bit higher. Im assuming this was due to the 18000 plus students in such a small area, and the fact that half of them can barely drive.

If you have a winter car some insurance agencies will calculate coverage by the percentage of time you drive a given car, or who the given driver was/is. I got around a rediculously high insurance cost on my first car because I was only listed as a "part-time driver", even though it was my car. I was registered under another car as well, hence the part time status. Having a winter beater can help.

I used to work for Enterprise (enterlies), so if you have any other insurance related questions when it comes to rentals and accidents and all that crap, feel free to send me a message. I know all the dirty tricks.

Elky,

The lowest you can go is 'limited liability'. If you are a step 9 driver and you have had your license for at least 6 years, cost for LL is usually between 500-800 a year, depending on the model/year of the car.

My roomate is 24 and he pays 50 bucks a month for insurance on his 91 maxima, with 107K.

Also, if you have a garage make sure you tell your insurance company the car is stored in a secure garage at your residence. That might help lower the costs.

ohhhh yeah, that's the other thing we do.
The SVT and Cougar are listed as "for pleasure" cars. I think the stipulation is that we don't drive them more than 7,500 miles per year. (pfft I don't think they've ever checked up on that number, but it's very reasonable).
That has also reduced our payments quite a bit.

but obviously that's still NH, but I guess it's still worth looking into.

Honestly, I think I pay about $800-900 total per year for both cars. The savings I get on storing the Cougar pay for pretty much all of the GL's annual insurance.

Not sure that's an option for us Massachusetts or NJ people. We've got some seriously screwed up insurance laws. That's why many of the big name discount insurance companies do not even offer insurance in MA or NJ. (i.e. Geico)

i used to do the low mileage thing, but i always seemed to go past it by a little.
