They -- who? I work for an equal opportunity employer: we have Indians, Chineese, and Russians. Pretty much evenly.
In addition to my other responsibilities I used to superwise a project outsourced to India. An Indian colleague of mine used to superwise a project outsourced to Ukraine. We both had rather mixed feelings about outsourcing in general. But this is not the point.
Companies outsource jobs which don't give them the edge. Goldman Sachs will never outsource traders, my company will not outsource developers of the product core. Prime outsourcing targets are routine jobs like backoffice, secondary GUI work, things which can be documented from A to B and shipped out. Cost is not the primary issue here. Companies are trying to get something done w/o dispersing the talent.
Somehow I am sure that for success of their F1 team Ferrari will cut throats if they can get away with it. They may be happy to save couple of Lires here and there, but if they screw up racing season because of 24 hour development turnaround I don't think anyone responsible for this contract will stay to see another season. So to summarise, I think it indicates that at least in this case they [think that they] found the talent in India. We'll see how it unfolds.
Well said. Thankfully, I work in the government sector, so I have no fears personally about outsourcing.
