Thats right. If the ports are too open velocity will only be good in the upper RPM ranges, leaving the lower range with less throttle response, and almost no torque, which our engines dont exactly have an abundance of anyway.

That sounds good. The hardest part is keeping all the ports the same, not removing more material from one than the other, etc. Usually gasket matching and removal of any casting flash and rough spots is enough to notice, although I have no experience with how good Zetec heads are from the factory. Just dont hog out the ports and you should be ok.
