This was back in the days when teams could run either a 3.0L nat-asp engine or a 1.5L turbo.
The Renault ran a 1.5L V6 turbo. Not sure of the HP level, but this was still at the beginning of turbo engine development, so power levels weren't too sick yet.
The Ferrari ran a 3L flat-12 which was probably not as powerful as the Renault. The car itself was pretty well outclassed by the Renault, which makes what Gilles did with it even more impressive.
