Well, in my opinion a sport has to conform to the following rules:

1.) The results must not be subjective. (Auto Racing passes)

2.) The competitor must provide a majority of the force provided to complete the competition. (Auto Racing fails, the engine is providing the propulsion)

3.) There must be an opponent with reactive defense. (Racing passes)

If one requirement fails, it is a competitive physical activity. If there is no strenous physical activity, it's a game.

This definition was the result of a discussion of a number of people I work and go to school with. THere were some concessions that had to be made. I would like to qualify boxing as a sport, but there are judges that subjectively rate the performance so it falls into the same category as figure skating.
