In theory the "let parents teach kids about sex" idea sounds good, but a lot of (maybe even most) parents won't talk about it, then you're left with kids not being taught anything. If you can't see the danger for society in that...

What I find even funnier is that Bush mandated that a good portion of his African AIDS Emergency Fund go to abstinence only programs; even to the point of banning handing out condoms and condom information. Sorry, but you're not going to convince a buncha people in 3rd world countries to stop fukcing.

I know the advice my parents gave me, hold out, if i am going to do it anyway, get Condoms.

My friend's mom went and bought her son Condoms, to ensure he was doing it safely...

Utah = U L T R A conservative... teen pregnancy rate is not the lowest in the states (nowhere near if I'm not mistaken).

So, are we to assume these parents are not teaching their kids? Are we to assume the schools are not teaching? I don't know.

What I do know is this: SOMEONE better step up and stop passing the buck. If the schools think parents aren't doing their jobs, STEP UP! If the parents think they should be doing the job, STEP UP!

P.S. $10 says Bush had premarital sex.

Yes, it is 100% the parents responsibility to teach their children morals and monitor what they watch on TV. But, if our society didn't promote sexual promiscutity (sp?) then most likely we wouldn't need SEX education. I remember just 10 years ago in high school, I don't remember my sex ed class being so detailed (I don't know what today's is like, I can only assume).

With that said, back to work.

The only problem with that idea, is that countries that have more open views about sex (Western Europe for example) have much much lower teen pregnancy rates.

Wow, I wonder what society did before sex education. It has been taught for a blink of the human history eye. I could be dumb, but I don't think our society crumbled or was endangered when people weren't learning everything about sex.

Maybe that is the best policy, since abstinence is the only way to prevent STDs. Don't you think it's better to teach a policy that leads to prevention than give the impression that using condoms prevents STDs??

Third World countries can either choose death or sex, and right now it looks like they're choosing death.

Teaching abstinence is like preaching communism...it looks really good on paper, but it doesn't work.

Realisticly we have to just admit to ourselves that our kids will have sex if they want to. So, we should teach them the consequences of having unprotected sex, protected sex, and abstaining. They'll make their own choices; all we can hope for is that we've informed them and that they make good choices.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to make the 'They're going to do it anyways' argument. They're going to smoke pot, tobacco, and drink anyways, but I don't see us handing out pipes, papers, and beer glasses in school.
