I noticed some posts looking for cam specs and thought I would help out.

Troy@SVT gave specs for the SVT cams in an earlier post but had some typos regarding ATDC, ABDC, and exhaust duration.

*97-00 2.54L & 2.49L SVT*
Intake Open = 18 deg. BTDC primary & secondary
Intake Close = 52 deg. ABDC for primary
Intake Close = 60 deg. ABDC for secondary
Intake Duration = 250 deg. for primary
Intake Duration = 258 deg. for secondary
Exhaust Open = 61 deg. BBDC
Exhaust Close = 21 deg. ATDC
Exhaust Duration = 262 deg.

*95-00-2.54L & 2.49L NonSVT and 95-99 3.0L Non Lincoln LS*
Yes, they use the same cams. Only LH 2.5 Intake is longer for accessory drive pulley.
Intake Open = 17 deg. BTDC primary & secondary
Intake Close = 47 deg. ABDC for primary
Intake Close = 53 deg. ABDC for secondary
Intake Duration = 244 deg. for primary
Intake Duration = 250 deg. for secondary
Exhaust Open = 67 deg. BBDC
Exhaust Close = 13 deg. ATDC
Exhaust Duration = 260 deg.

*2000-3.0L Non Lincoln LS*
No primary or secondary. Head is not split port.
Intake Open = 4 deg. BTDC
Intake Close = 48 deg. ABDC
Intake Duration = 232 deg
Exhaust Open = 56 deg. BBDC
Exhaust Close = 12 deg. ATDC
Exhaust Duration = 248 deg.

Do you know where these specs originally came from?
I have had my SVT cams off, and the primary and secondary lobes are the same size. With a difference of 8 degrees listed for the duration between the primary and secondary lobes, I think that they would have a slightly different shape.
I would like to know more about the source before I can take these specs seriously.

Warmonger, what do you mean exactly by diff. size/shape? Non SVT intake lift is the same for primary & secondary. SVT has 0.001 in more lift on secondary.

As for the source, let's just say:
1) It's the very best.
2) No, I didn't actually measure all the above cams, but I could have. wink

I suppose I could add the lift specs if anyone is interested.

Well, the lobes on the cam dictate the lift and the duration of the primary and secondary intake valves. Lift could be modified if there were different roller finger followers used, but they are the same.
The duration increase means that the secondary intake valve lobe must be wider (in the direction of rotation), ie a bigger lobe. The height can be the same. I think that for 8 degrees of crankshaft revolution the lobe should be noticeably wider.
I guess a cam expert would know for sure, I'm only going off my own reasoning and the fact that I spent a lot of time looking at my cams and comparing them to the 3L taurus cams. I saw no difference between the lobes.

Yes, 8° of crankshaft revolution but only 4° of cam rotation. Might not be so visible when you think of it this way.

Warmonger, You cant tell squat about a camshaft's specs. by holding it in your hands and looking at it. You have to degree the cam with it installed in the engine.

I hope you guys realize this is an OLD post!

I used the SVT cams because of the waterpump drive. I just went through the cams with a micrometer and a lot of pencil drawings trying to decide whether or not I could 'visually' see a difference between 8 degrees or not.

In another post after tossing it around about the percent error, we agreed that 'visual' differences may have been so slight as to not be noticeable. Therefore there was no real basis to think that the cams are the same. So I backed off and agreed that I was MISTAKEN. I had no real way to verify that the cams are different or the same.
Hope I didn't cause anyone to be confused.
I have no Idea why this post keeps getting linked to from other areas as there is no benefit to this discussion.
(PROCYON, can you explain that? If you are pissed off because I doubted the specs, then get over it man! I backed off as I said, but I still remain neutral on the subject as I have nothing to argue the point. It was nothing personal.)

What am I the only one on this forum who has the guts to be wrong sometimes AND admit it too?
If people don't challenge old ideas then new ideas would never be created. The world would still be flat!! I say it takes an inquisitive mind to challenge something, an educated mind to make a good showing, and a MAN to admit when you are wrong!

Warmonger,
Not sure what Prycon wrote that irritated you...doesn't look like he intended to offend you in any way.
