Check this out,a shifter that works sequintialy (not the trans, the shifter)

They make them for VW'S now and will add other lines. Contour/Mondeo owners make some noise, but they might not work with rod shifters. See at www.seqshift.com

The reason for the long shifter is so your hand has less distance to travel to reach and shift.
As for the long notchy throw... well no matter how you look at it the shift is always half of what you normally do and no matter how notchy you won't ever miss a shift.

I knew about the reason for the shifter being so high... I just thought the back/forth movement required to switch gears seemed comparable to a B&M shifter. Your hand does get to it faster, and as long as you get it past the notch on the ring you're right, no more missed shifts!

I wonder how this feels when syncros are starting to go on a tranny... Does it just buck before the gear and you don't know if you're in neutral so that you can double-clutch the thing???

I am not really sure about getting it into nuetral, but you still have to use the clutch when shifting and you retain full clutch function so shift smoothness will be determined how good you can use your clutch pedal regardless of trans wear.

I still think it's a joke. Too expensive, and you still have to clutch. MY short shifter cost me $0. For $830 you can buy a set of Konis, H&R springs and an intake!!!!!

I'd gladly pay the $830 for it. Missing a shift under boost sucks and even with a short throw shifter my shifts aren't prescise as I want them to be.

Plus I can be found on the local road coarse turning laps regularly so this would be something that I feel would help greatly and I think it would be money well spent.
