I hope he never takes it to the dealer with those modifications. They'll make a note in the record and they'll refuse to take it back at the end of lease term.

it would be a problem for any extreme or custom made stuff, but for different wheels, springs, and other basic bolt ons it shouldnt be an issue. hell, i see dealerships around here passing out leased cars that are already modified. you know, you drive by the caddy dealership and see an escalade on 24z with billet grill etc for sale, you can lease those too. SEMA has excellent information regarding dealers/warranties etc on their website. they have spent years pushing legislation to deal with bs like that. ive seen people cut coils, hydros, graphics and shave door handles on leased cars. they said they would just return it to stock when theyre done having their fun. they probably didnt take it to the dealer for service though, for reasons that sigma pointed out.

When I leased my 'dub, they told me that I could modify the car to my hearts extent, however I would pay for any modifications that were "detrimental to the resale value of the car."
good tinting=ok bad, peeling tinting= not ok. new grille=ok new lights: gray area, but probably ok as long as they're tasteful. performance chip: not ok. Why? Nixes the warranty, which kills the resale.
So they will take the car back, but can conceivably ding you with a few $k in charges. In which case, you get bridge financing, buy the car off the dealer, and flip it to someone else to pay off your loan. Simple!

All hail the VQ series engine! Seriously, G35c is a nice vehicle. Luxury with a decent amount of power. What year is your buddies G35c? The 05 coupes ship with 298HP now.

I tend not to hail engines that blow out their bottom ends on a rather regular basis with even a slight power increase over factory. Nissan has pushed that engine about as far as it's going to go.

Not sure what you're referring to here. There a tons of people running the twin turbo kits on otherwise stock VQ35 engines that aren't experiencing engine failure. Sure, push any engine beyond a certain point and you're going to experience failures, no mystery there.
And as far as pushing it as far as it can go, nowhere close I'm afraid. The biggest limitation is the 300HP limits due to Japanese law at this point. That's why all Jap cars (yes even those largely produced here in the U.S.) aren't "rated" over 300HP (350Z, EVO, STi, and the list goes on). The new 05 G35c's are rated at 298HP for this reason. The engineers could easily push the VQ series engine way beyond 300HP if need be. Sure the Jap manufacturers could produce "U.S. only" engine variants, but this minimizes lean production efficiencies when they do so, hence the reason these engines all stay under the "rated" 300 HP mark.
