Thanks for the info. Could this ECT sensor be the problem and do you know how much they run? Also where is this sensor located? Does my car's symptoms sound like anything a bad ECT sensor would cause?

Actually, it sounds like the Idle Air Control valve to me. I had the same problem, but could hold the gas pedal down just a wee bit and it ran fine. The IAC is about $40-$45 at Autozone and fairly easy to replace on the Duratec. There's a little threaded stop that my throttle bracket stops against. I just gave it a turn or 3 (effctively keeping the gas pedal down a bit) and drove it like that for several weeks with no problems. I changed the IAC and haven't had a problem since (6 mos. now) My .02

Where is the IAC located? And is this something that I could replace fairly easily? Thanks.

If I were to clean the IAC, how should I do it and what should I use to clean it? Is there a how-to on cleaning the IAC?

IAC is toward the back of the intake behind the throttle body. Cleaning isn't really effective, but it's fairly easy to replace. It's actually attached to the upper intake. If you get a new one, you'll easily be able to spot the old one on the engine. Maybe someone will post a picture.

Ok, I see it. Now, how do you remove that thing? It doesn't look too hard to replace once someone tells me how to remove it. I don't want to break anything, so I will wait until someone replies.

Thanks,

Nick

2 screws connect it to the UIM.
You can see one of them in the picture.

Like Chongo said, the top one's in the picture. The bottom one is, well, on the bottom. Very obvious once you have the new IAC. The bottom is a wee bit difficult to get to, but not too bad. The whole job takes less than 1/2 hour.

Thanks guys. Do you think this could be the cause of my problem? I mean does the IAC affect the car like this? (How mine is acting.) Is it worth replacing?

Thanks again.
