I'll vouch for the reliability and quality of NGK plugs!

90% of spark plug failures on 'aftermarket' plugs is because the supplier has not developed/matched the heat range of the motor correctly...(Ford UK R&D Data!) wink

To change the debate for a little bit, what is the heat range, and where can one get the vital information that is needed to make a smart purchase?

IIRC, SVT owners always had problems with the +4. To be honest, the Ford spark plugs aren't that bad! Lasted me 91000 miles before 2 of the 6 went out!

Au Contraire...

I had 2-3 of 6 Motorcrafts go out before 15k and have had great results with the +4's (to date wink 5k)

However with that said; I plan to do a cursory pull of the front plugs to check them before it gets hot again. laugh I may just put in NGK Platinums and be done with it.

I agree with that. My Bosch +4's caused me to ping under acceleration in the summer. The stock plugs did not. After about 15K miles I took the plugs out and the electrodes were being eaten away. This was on a completely stock car at the time. I used a new set of motorcraft double platinums and I'm not sorry...little to no pinging this summer.

Most spark plug mfgs use the nuber within the plug # as the heat range ,Champion,NGK but some use their own code, for example Champion go from 51(cold/hard plug) to 69 (hot/soft plug). To comape on physical check refer to the OEM plugs, you cancheck/measure the amount of ceramic insulation that is exposed inside the part of the plug that goes into the cylinder.........

Speaking of plugs, I decided it was time to replace mine. I was having a backfire and stutter problem if accelerating under 1k rpms. I decided on Autolite double plats. After installing these plugs, I've come to the conclusion, That someone installed a new motor in my car. It drives amazing again. If I had only known that this would have been the result. I'd done it in the warmth rather than in 35 degree temps. This car is once again a rocket!!!
