I had that problem (wierd noises over bumps, excess play in the steering etc.) from the first day I had my 'tour. Come to find out that both of my front strut mounts were completely shot and the struts paid the price for the bad mounts. I just recently had all that replaced, new tires and a 4 wheel alignment done and I'm very suprised by the difference. The only other vehicle I've ever driven/owned that I liked this much for winding roads was my Neon R/T [R.I.P.
